Currently, the fee for processing a chargeback notification is $15.
The fee is a standalone adjustment, applied per chargeback notification received. The standard amount for chargeback fees in the industry varies but in most cases it is a standalone fee of $10-$30 per chargeback or it is embedded into alternate fees such as credit card fees, licensing fees or other financial activity.
This fee is intended to cover the cost of transmission of chargeback data, costs associated with the chargeback itself and coverage against the chargeback exposure against Toast for credit card processing.
This fee is not waived, unless it was a result of a known Toast processing outage or issue. Chargeback details are disclosed as part of the Toast Merchant agreement (http://pos.toasttab.com/merchant-agreement - Section 7.8 - 7.11).
As the party originally accepting the credit card transaction, the merchant is responsible for the liability of adhering to any customer/bank issued disputes and associated potential fees.
There are no specific distinctions as to whether the chargeback is erroneous or valid, once the chargeback is initiated, as it still results in the clawback of funds, a chargeback fee is assessed and an opportunity to dispute the chargeback is provided.
