NOTE: This feature becomes available in v 2.5 of Toast (June 2016)
Discounts can be applied to items in Buy One Get One (BOGO) scenarios.
To configure items that qualify for a BOGO discount, navigate to Discounts in the Payments section of Toast's back end.
Select +Add and enter the name of the discount into the text field that appears. From the Type dropdown menu, choose BOGO. Save the new discount.
Note: Since the BOGO discount applies to multiple items on a check and does not have a definite value, the Applies To and Value drop down is not applicable.
Once the discount has been added, save your changes. Then, select the name of the discount to make changes to its properties.
As with any discount, choose if it is Active and which users should have permission to issue the discount. Most importantly, confirm that the Discount Type is configured to Buy One Get One.
Next, configure the Buy One / Get One details:
Scroll to the Buy Items section. First, choose if the eligible items can be be any menu item(s) or if only specific items are eligible.
If only specific items are eligible, begin typing the name of the menu item and choose from the auto-populated list. Multiple items can be entered, meaning that any eligible item listed will prompt the BOGO discount to be activated.
Next, choose how many of eligible items must be ordered to prompt the BOGO discount.
In the example below, the customer must purchase 2 bottled beers to get the discount being offered.
Scroll to the Get Items section. Choose if any items or specific items are eligible to be received at the discounted rate.
Enter the quantity of the menu item(s) that the customer will receive at the discounted rate.
Last, choose if the discount will be a fixed percentage or fixed amount. Enter the amount into the text field.
In the example below, the customer can receive any 1 of the items listed at half off (if they purchase the 2 bottled beers as shown above).
When the discount is saved and published, it will be available for use on all devices.
- An item cannot prompt a BOGO unless it is full price (cannot be already discounted)
- An item cannot be discounted by a BOGO if it is not full priced
- An item cannot prompt a BOGO if it has already prompted one
- The item's menu configuration must be set to Yes - Can be discounted in order to be discounted as a BOGO
- Voiding an item that prompts a BOGO will also void the BOGO
On the device:
Once the eligible items have been added to the check, select Discount (DISCNT) to view discounts that can be applied to the entire check. Select the BOGO discount.
Once the BOGO discount is applied, the price change will be reflected in the check's total. The discount will appear as a line item on the check along with the dollar amount being discounted.
If you'd like to use the same item for the BOGO discount, you want to make sure that the "Combine Items" feature is turned off in UI options prior to performing this. Otherwise, you will not be able to use the BOGO discount if like items are combined.
