2.11 Update now allows you to configure discounts that are only valid for certain Menus, Menu Groups or Menu Items. This article will cover setup instructions for both types.
Item Specific Discounts
Discounts can be configured to be applied to specific menu items. This prevents employees from discounting items that shouldn't be eligible for discount.
To configure Item Specific Discounts, navigate to Discounts in the Payments section of Toast's back end.
Add the name of the discount into the text field and choose whether it is a fixed percentage or dollar amount. Make sure that it is applied to the Item and enter the appropriate value for the discount. Save your changes.
Once the discount has been saved, select the newly created discount to make changes to its properties.
As with any discount, choose if it is Active and which users should have permission to issue the discount. Confirm that the discount type is appropriate for the item being discounted. Most importantly, make sure that it is being applied to a specific item.
In the example below, the item(s) are being discounted 100%.
Once the discount properties are configured, choose if the discount should be applied to All items or Specific items.
If only specific items are eligible, begin typing the name of the menu item(s) and choose from the auto-populated list. Multiple items can be entered, meaning that any eligible item listed can be discounted 100%.
In this example, all items on the kids menu are eligible for this discount.
When the discount is saved and published, it will be available for use on all devices.
If you have a discount that you want to apply to all items on a specific menu, you can do this easily by following similar steps. Instead of assigning specific items (ex. Kids Hamburger), select the assign the Menu or Menu Group (ex. Kids Menu).
Follow the same steps above to create a Menu-specific or Menu Group-specific discount. Type the name under Eligible Items to add the discount to the desired entity. The type of entity will appear below the name. In the example below, "Salad" is a Menu Group.
On the Device:
Once the eligible item(s) has been added to the check, select Discount Item. The discount that was created will appear and can be applied to the item.
Note: An item level discount cannot be applied on the check level.
