Toast's Kiosk mode is a feature that will need to be enabled by a Toast administrator. Please contact our support team at 617-682-0225 to get started.
Adding Menus to Kiosk Mode
Only menus that are selected to appear in Kiosk mode will be available to be ordered by the end-user. To activate a menu so it's visible in kiosk mode, select the name of the Menu in the menu section of your back end. Scroll to the option Show on Kiosk and make sure Yes is selected.
Currently, only entire menus can be configured to appear in Kiosk mode. To remove an individual item or group from appearing in Kiosk, set the group or item visibility to Hidden in Advanced Properties.
Note: Groups or items that are set to be Hidden will not be visible/available to be ordered from any POS terminal.
Adding Images to Kiosk Menu Items
Adding images to kiosk menu items makes the user experience friendlier. To add images to menu items, navigate to the item you'd like to add a picture to. This can be done in Advanced Properties or by using the search bar.
Once under the item, scroll to Advanced Properties. Under the Properties section, select Choose Image to upload your image. Be sure to scroll to the top to Save and Publish your changes.
Your image will then appear with that item on the kiosk.
Adding Images to Kiosk Welcome Screen
To add images on the Kiosk Welcome Screen, scroll to Other Setup and select Kiosk Setup.
Select Choose Image to upload a PNG or JPG.
Be sure to select Save & Publish. The image will appear on the Kiosk screen.
Operating in Kiosk Mode
The workflow for Kiosk mode is as follows:
Enter Kiosk Mode by selecting it as the mode for the device that should operate as a kiosk.
The restaurant customer can begin placing a new order by selecting Start. If the customer has visited the restaurant, swiping the credit card that was used at their previous visit will populate their most recent order.
Once the user has confirmed the items they wish to order, the items will appear in their cart and the amount due will increase as items are added.
If the item contains modifiers, the customer will be prompted to choose required modifiers, or make any other preferred modifications to the item. Any price additions to modifiers will be shown on the modifier's button.
Note: If the item requires a modifier choice, it will appear as *Required so the customer understands an option must be selected.
As items are added to the order, they will appear in the cart on the right and will add to the pre-taxed subtotal of the order.
When the customer is ready to check out, selecting Check Out will prompt them to choose whether the order should be prepared to be a Dine In or Take Out order.
Once the customer chooses their dining option, they will be prompted to swipe their card and complete the payment workflow. A customer cannot key in credit cards or pay with cash when operating in Kiosk mode.
Note: The subtotal changes to the final total once the dining option has been chosen.
To remove an item from the cart, make changes to an item's modifiers, or change the quantity of an item, select the item from the cart on the right.
The options to Delete Item, Edit Order, and Done will appear. To change the quantity of the item, use the + and - buttons at the top left.
Exiting Kiosk Mode:
Once a device is put into Kiosk mode, a manager or admin must enter their passcode to exit Toast or revert back to normal Table Service, Quick Order, Ticket Display Screen, etc. This disables the end-user from closing the Toast app, whether intentionally or mistakenly.
Tap and hold the Powered by Toast logo at the bottom right of any Kiosk screen. Then, enter a manager's passcode on the passcode screen to be returned to Toast's dashboard.
Kitchen Ticket Kiosk Mode
When an order is placed on the kiosk, the dining option will print in red on the kitchen ticket and will include that the order came from the kiosk.
