In the Toast system, no Menu Item is removed completely. If you've removed an item from a Menu Group and wish to restore it, it can be retrieved from the Items Database.
In this example, say that we have removed all Johnny Walker products from the "Scotch Whisky" Menu Group under your "Drinks" Menu, as you stopped offering Johnny Walker products, but may wish to offer them again in the future. Let's also say that you never foresee a need to offer Johnny Walker Blue ever again, and so, therefore, that item has already been archived in the Items Database.
Your active "Scotch Whisky" Menu Group under your "Drinks" Menu may look something like this:
When performing a search on "Johnny," your Items Database may appear as below:
Notice that, to see archived items, the Show Archived checkbox must be ticked.
Scenario 1: Item Has Not Been Archived
You now wish to restore "Johnny Walker Red" and "Johnny Walker Black" to the active Menu Group. If you navigate to Menus -> Drinks -> Scotch Whisky: under the +Add drop down list is an entry labelled Existing Items:
After clicking on Existing items and filtering the displayed list with "Johnny", the Select Menu Item list displays both unarchived Johnny Walker items. Clicking on the "Johnny Walker Red" item displays the current cost and whether or not it's used in any Menu Groups.
Clicking on the Select button restores this item to the given Menu Group. By performing the same steps for the "Johnny Walker Black" item, both items are restored to the Menu Group (albeit in an unsaved state):
After saving and publishing the changes, the items should be listed in the Menu Group, as below:
Scenario 2: Item Has Been Archived
Low and behold, you realize that you will, indeed, once again offer Johnny Walker Blue. However, you've already archived it. What can be done in this case?
For this scenario, it's simply a matter of unarchiving the archived item, and then restoring the item to the Menu Group, as was performed in Scenario 1, above.
By returning to the Items Database (as above), we still see the following:
By simply clicking on the "Johnny Walker Blue" item and clicking Restore, the item is returned to the list of active items, as can be see below:
To further restore "Johnny Walker Blue" to the active Menu Group, simply follow the steps above as listed in Scenario 1. After further alphabetization, the "Scotch Whisky" Menu Group should appear as below:
