Toast allows users to sorts checks by using various filters. This example will show what it looks like under the Payment Terminal section. Filters can also be used on any screens that show orders.
To start, select the Overflow menu in the top right corner, then select Advanced Filter.
The column on the left will change the way that the checks are sorted. You can only choose one at a time.
-Most Recent will sort so that the newest checks are shown first
-Oldest will show the checks with the oldest date. Toast will only load the last two weeks worth of checks onto the tablet by default.
-Check Number will show you the smallest check number first. Be aware that if there are multiple days worth of Unclosed checks then there might some checks that have the same number. In that case the checks will be shown with the oldest checks first.
-Table number will show the smallest table number first, and the checks with no table number at the bottom.
-Balance Due will sort with the checks with the highest balance due first.
-Dollar Amount will show you the checks that have the highest total sales amount first.
-Customer Last Name is a special sort. It is based off of the Takeout and Delivery option Last Name field. If you did not enter a last name when filling out the time there.
-Tab Name is based on the data that that you enter in the Tab Name prompt.
The fields on the right are filters, and you can select more than one at a time to quickly show you a granular level of checks. Table order and Quick Order are the only ones that you cannot have checked at the same time. They will stay sorted by whatever metric you chose in the left column. The filter that you will most likely use the most often is "Show Checks For the Current User". This filter will show the checks for whoever is punched in and the name of the employee will appear as a pink filter at the top of the screen.
These filters remain.
If you leave any sorted check view and return to it, you will see the same sorting and filtering that you left. These filters also remain across many different screens. These are the Previous Checks Button, the Payment Terminal, the Pending Orders Screen and the Delivery Screen. It will not affect the Ticket Display Screen, which shows the prep stations and kitchen tickets. These are device level filters, and will also be persistent across users. So if someone else uses their passcode on the device, it will have the same sorting and filtering that was applied by the previous user.
