With version 22.214.171.124, Toast POS now handles the ability to assign back up printers. In the scenario if a particular printer is not printing receipts either due to running out of paper or if a cable accidentally gets disconnected, the Toast system will automatically print the receipt from a back up printer.
To assign back up printers just navigate to the Toast dashboard. Then click on the printer section. You will see a screen similar to the one displayed below. It will have a list of printers. On the right side you will see an option called "Backup". From there you can select the back up printer for each station printer using the drop down menu.
You can also utilize the new Toast POS version to increase your printer performance by following the youtube videos below for the T20 (thermal) and the U220B (kitchen) printers. The adjustment will increase the buffer of the printer to hold more tickets in the queue, increase response time, and increase the amount of information from the printer to determine whether the error is due to paper outage, paper jam, or other potential errors.
Socket time out for all Epson printers:
3.) Change Socket Timeout value from 300 to 5.
4.) Hit Submit
5.) Hit Reset. Printer should reset after a few seconds. If not, reboot the printer.
